    Relationship between oxidative stress and blood lipid metabolism in schizophrenia

    Objective To investigate the relationship between oxidative stress and blood lipid metabolism in schizophrenia.Methods Serum total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),superoxide dismutase(SOD),glutathione(GSH) and malondialdehyde(MDA) were determined in 50 patients with schizophrenia and 49 healthy subjects(healthy control group). Serum TC>5.72 mmol/L and serum TG>1.7 mmol/L meant blood lipid levels elevated,patients who had normal serum TC or normal serum TG were excluded,and schizophrenia patients were classified into normal blood lipid group(24 cases) and hyperlipemia group(17 cases). Results Comparing with healthy control group,serum levels of TC,TG and MDA in schizophrenia group were higher (P<0.05),serum SOD and GSH levels decreased (P<0.05). The serum levels of SOD,GSH and MDA between normal blood lipid group and hyperlipemia group had no statistical significance (P>0.05).Conclusions Schizophrenia patients have dyslipidemia inducing cardiovascular diseases and oxidative stress injury. The relationship between oxidative stress and blood lipid metabolism in schizophrenia should be researched further.

    Comparison on 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels between pregnant and non-pregnant childbearing age women

    Objective To study serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels in pregnant and non-pregnant childbearing age women,and to guide the basic healthy care for perinatal women. Methods A total of 136 pregnant women and 122 non-pregnant childbearing age women were enrolled. The data,such as age,calcium supplements,multivitamin supplements and outdoor activity time per day,were collected through questionnaires. Serum 25(OH)D levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Results The levels of serum 25(OH)D were(45.40±13.26)nmol/L in pregnant group and(34.90±9.18)nmol/L in non-pregnant group(P<0.05). The proportions of vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency were 61.76% and 37.50% in pregnant group,and the proportions of vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency were 89.34% and 10.66% in non-pregnant group. Conclusions Pregnant women have higher serum 25(OH)D levels than non-pregnant childbearing age women. Vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency phenomenon is common.

    Objective To know the status of serum cholinesterase(CHE) determination in Shanghai through investigation,and to provide a reference for the external quality assessment of CHE determination in Shanghai.Methods Quality control samples with 4 different levels basing on human serum matrix were delivered to 69 laboratories with different grades and types in Shanghai. All samples were determined within prescribed time,and determination results were reported in unified time. The results of laboratories were classified according to determination methods and reagent brands. Results The 69 laboratories used 3 determination methods,and were classified into 4 determination method groups,German Society for Clinical Chemistry(Deutsche Gesellschaft für Klinische Chemie,DGKC) colorimetric method with butyrylthiocholine/potassium hexacyanochromate(Ⅲ) as substrate,colorimetric method with butyrylthiocholine /5,5'-dithiobis(2-nitrobenzoic acid)(DTNB) as substrate,enzyme coupling method recommended by Japan Society of Clinical Chemistry(JSCC) and dry chemical DGKC method. The intra-group variation of the 4 groups was good [coefficients of variation(CV)<10%]. The results of JSCC method group were different from those of the other 3 groups,and the results of DGKC method and dry chemical DGKC method group had difference,but the results' difference between DGKC method and DTNB method groups was small,and the bias was <3%. CHE determination in Shanghai mainly(about 85%) was based on DGKC method and DTNB method as reaction principle,the numbers of reagent brands of the 2 methods was equal,however,the number of laboratories using DGKC method reagents(38) was more than the number of laboratories using DTNB method reagents(14).Conclusions The results of this investigation provide a reference for the external quality assessment of CHE determination in Shanghai.

    Levels of serum homocysteine in middle-aged and elderly people in Dongjing community of Shanghai and their influence factors

    Objective To investigate the influence factors for the levels of serum homocysteine(Hcy) in middle-aged and elderly people in Dongjing community of Shanghai.Methods A total of 2 336 healthy subjects ≥55 years old were enrolled from Dongjing community. Their blood pressure,serum Hcy,blood lipid,glucose(Glu) and so on were determined. According to age,sex,systolic blood pressure,diastolic blood pressure and body mass index(BMI),they were classified into hypertension group and non-hypertension group,diabetes mellitus group and non-diabetes mellitus group,heart disease group and non-heart disease group,respectively. According to biochemical indices,results were classified into normal and abnormal groups. The levels of serum Hcy and the influence factors were evaluated. Results The prevalence rate of hyperhomocysteinemia in males(23.0%) was higher than that in females(8.1%,P<0.01). Serum Hcy levels increased with ages,while the prevalence rate of hyperhomocysteinemia had statistical significance(P<0.01). In different systolic blood pressure groups of <15.96,15.96-18.49 and ≥18.62 kPa,the prevalence rates of hyperhomocysteinemia were 11.5%,14.8% and 17.1% (P<0.05). The prevalence rates of hyperhomocysteinemia in heart disease and non-heart disease groups were 18.0% and 13.1%(P<0.01). The prevalence rates of hyperhomocysteinemia in abnormal creatinine(Cr),uric acid(UA) and urea groups (44.1%,24.6% and 24.2%) were higher than those in normal Cr,UA and urea groups(12.9%,12.3% and 14.2%,P<0.01). In abnormal total cholesterol(TC) group,the prevalence rate of hyperhomocysteinemia was lower than that in normal TC group(12.8% and 16.3%,P<0.05). The prevalence rates of hyperhomocysteinemia had no statistical significance in groups with normal and abnormal Glu,triglyceride(TG),BMI and systolic blood pressure,and there was no statistical significance for diabetes mellitus and hypertension or not(P>0.05). Bivariate logistic regression analysis showed that heart disease,male,UA,Cr and systolic blood pressure were influence factors for the levels of Hcy.Conclusions Male,heart disease,UA,Cr and systolic blood pressure are risk factors of hyperhomocysteinemia among middle-aged and elderly people.

    False negative interference of RF on serum HBeAg by ELISA

    Objective To investigate whether rheumatoid factor(RF) can cause false negative interference on serum hepatitis B e antigen(HBeAg)by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Methods Serum samples with negative hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg),negative HBeAg and positive RF were collected and comprised by blending HBeAg-positive and RF-positive control substance at a ratio of 9∶1. HBeAg level was determined by different ELISA kits. RF adsorption latex was used to remove RF from samples,and the change of HBeAg level was compared before and after pre-treatment. Results The 3 kinds of HBeAg ELISA kits had false negative interference. There were 7 of 9 false negative samples transforming to positive after pre-treatment. Conclusions The S/CO of HBeAg determination by ELISA is susceptible to false negative interference from RF. The pre-treatment of samples is effective prior to the interpretation of determination results.

    Regulator T cells and cytokines in peripheral blood of cervical cancer patients with different stages

    Objective To investigate regulator T cell(Treg) ratio and cytokines in peripheral blood of cervical cancer patients with different stages. Methods A total of 80 cervical cancer patients with different stages and 24 healthy females were enrolled. The levels of interleukin(IL)-2,IL-10,transforming growth factor-beta(TGF-β),cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen 4(CTLA-4) and lymphocyte activation gene 3(LAG-3) in serum were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA),and flow cytometry was used to determine the ratio of Treg in peripheral blood. Results The level of IL-2 in patients with cervical cancer was lower than that in healthy control group(P<0.01),and decreased with stage increasing. The levels of IL-10 and TGF-β were higher than those in healthy control group(P<0.05),and increased with stage increasing. The level of CTLA-4 was higher than that in healthy control group(P<0.05),but there was no statistical significance among different stages(P>0.05). The level of LAG-3 at stage Ⅲ was higher than that in healthy control group(P<0.05). The ratio of Treg in cervical cancer patients was higher than that in healthy control group(P<0.05), and increased with stage increasing. Conclusions The levels of IL-2,IL-10 and TGF-β and Treg ratio in peripheral blood are closely related to the development of cervical cancer. The monitoring and analysis of these indices will help to reveal the immune mechanism of cervical cancer.

    Serum food-specific IgG and specific IgG4 in 655 patients with chronic urticaria

    Objective To determine serum food-specific IgG(sIgG)and specific IgG4(sIgG4)in patients with chronic urticaria,to analyze the correlations of the levels of sIgG and sIgG4 with the disease severity of urticaria and life quality,and to evaluate the clinical outcome of dietary avoidance after 6 months.Methods Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) was used to determine the levels of sIgG and sIgG4 against 20 kinds of food in 655 patients with chronic urticaria and 51 healthy subjects(healthy control group). The Weekly Urticaria Activity Score(UAS7),the Dermatology Life Quality Index(DLQI)and oral antihistamine dosage were evaluated by questionnaires for 65 patients selected randomly. The clinical outcome of dietary avoidance was evaluated after 6 months in 26 patients. Results The positive rates of sIgG and sIgG4 were higher in chronic urticaria patients(74.4% and 69.3%) than in healthy control group(13.7% and 5.9%)(P<0.01). Egg,peanut,milk,soya bean and crab were the most common food with high positive rates. There was no correlation of the levels of sIgG and sIgG4 with UAS7,DLQI and oral antihistamine dosage. There was statistical significance for UAST,DLQI and oral antihistamine dosage before and after dietary avoidance(P<0.01).Conclusionss The determinations of sIgG and sIgG4 may be helpful for the etiologic diagnosis and treatment of chronic urticaria.

    Determination of respiratory tract virus among children in Suzhou from 2011 to 2015

    Objective To analyze the results of respiratory tract virus determination among children in Suzhou from 2011 to 2015.Methods Direct immunofluorescent method was used to determine 7 common respiratory tract viruses,including adenovirus(ADV),influenza virus A(IVA),influenza virus B(IVB),parainfluenza virus 1(PIV1),parainfluenza virus 2(PIV2),parainfluenza virus 3(PIV3) and respiratory syncytial virus(RSV). The positive rates and mixed viral infection rates were evaluated. Results A total of 2 151 children with respiratory tract infection were enrolled,and the overall positive rate for the 7 common respiratory tract viruses was 31.47%(677/2 151). The positive rates were 1.39% for ADV,1.07% for IVA,1.16% for IVB,0.51% for PIV1,0.33% for PIV2,3.63% for PIV3 and 26.96% for RSV. There was statistical significance for the positive rates with different seasons(χ2=81.52,P<0.001). The infection tended to occur in winter. RSV was the most common virus,and its positive rate was 38.64% in winter. There was statistical significance for the positive rates with different ages(χ2=18.30,P<0.001). Infants of 28 d-<1 year old were more likely to be infected with the viruses,particularly RSV(27.72%). The high proportions of mixed viral infection were 16.94%(21 cases) for RSV+IVB and 14.52%(18 cases) for RSV+ADV. RSV had the highest proportion of mixed viral infection with the other viruses(58.06%). Mixed viral infection tended to occur in winter and among infants.Conclusions RSV is a main acute respiratory tract virus among children in Suzhou,especially among infants and in winter. For mixed viral infection,RSV is the most common virus.

    Correlation of the poor prognosis of acute myeloid leukemia with FLT3-ITD and DNMT3A mutations

    Objective To investigate the roles of FLT3-ITD and DNMT3A mutations in the prognosis of acute myeloid leukemia(AML) patients in intermediate-risk-cytogenetic-group. Methods A total of 132 de novo AML patients were enrolled from the Affiliated Hospital of Oregon Health and Science University from 2010 to 2016,and they were classified into favorable-risk-cytogenetic-group(24 cases),intermediate-risk-cytogenetic-group(79 cases) and adverse-risk-cytogenetic-group(27 cases). There were 2 cases with unknown cytogenetic information. Totally,42 genes being relevant to hematopoietic malignancies were determined by next generation sequencing(NGS). Results There were 91%(120/132) of AML cases with at least one mutation,and the pattern of co-mutations(≥2) accounted for 61%. Kaplan-Meier analysis demonstrated that the overall survival in FLT3-ITD mutation positive group for intermediate-risk-cytogenetic-group had statistical significance with that in FLT3-ITD mutation negative group(P<0.001). When DNMT3A was co-mutated,FLT3-ITD mutation positive group had a shorter overall survival compared to FLT3-ITD mutation negative group(P<0.001). In the present of DNMT3A wildtype,there was no statistical significance for overall survival between FLT3-ITD mutation positive and FLT3-ITD mutation negative groups(P>0.05). FLT3-ITD mutation positive with DNMT3A mutation group had a shorter overall survival compared to FLT3-ITD mutation negative group(P<0.001) and FLT3-ITD mutation positive with DNMT3A wildtype group(P=0.003). Conclusions In intermediate-risk-cytogenetic-group,the co-mutations of FLT3-ITD and DNMT3A have an adverse prognosis. The determinations of FLT3-ITDand DNMT3A mutations may be needed to refine prognostication and guide clinical management in AML.

    Applicability of the reference intervals for venous blood white blood cells and related indices

    Objective To verify the applicability of the newly-issued Blood Cell Analysis Reference Interval industry standard WS/T405—2012 for healthy adults in Xuzhou. Methods According to WS/T405—2012 issued by the National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People's Republic of China in December 2012,9 004 healthy adults aged from 20 to 79 in Xuzhou were enrolled,and their venous blood samples were collected. Blood routine test was performed by XT-4000 blood cell analyzer. The individual distribution for those beyond the new reference intervals about 11 white blood cell(WBC) indices [WBC count,neutrophil value(NEUT#),lymphocyte value(LYMPH#),monocyte value(MO#),eosinophil value(EO#),basophil value(BASO#),neutrophil percent(NEUT%),lymphocyte percent(LYMPH%),monocyte percent(MO%),eosinophil percent(EO%) and basophil percent(BASO%)] listed in industry standard was analyzed. The difference of indices for sex and age was analyzed statistically. Results The individual proportions of all the WBC indices beyond the new reference intervals were <10%. Except BASO# and BASO%,the other 9 indices had statistical significance between males and females(P<0.05). Conclusions The new reference intervals of WBC and related indices are suitable in Xuzhou,without considering sex and age.

    Discrimination formulas for the differential diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia and beta thalassemia trait in Sichuan

    Objective To evaluate discrimination formulas for the differential diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia(IDA) and beta thalassemia trait(β-TT) in Sichuan Zigong. Methods A total of 760 patients from Zigong were enrolled,including 255 cases of β-TT and 505 cases of IDA. Red blood cell(RBC) indices were used to calculate the sensitivities(SEN),specificities(SPE),positive predictive values(PPV),negative predictive values(NPV),and Youden's indices(YI) of 10 discrimination formulas,including Shine and Lal,Green and King,Mentzer,RDWI,Srivastava,Ricerca,England and Fraser,Ehsani,Sirdah and Huber-Herklotz. Receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve was drawn. Results Mentzer was the most reliable index,as it had the highest YI(80.1%),the SEN was 97.0%,the SPE was 83.1%,and area under curve(AUC) was 0.971. The YI,SEN,SPE and AUC for RDWI were 72.8%,95.2%,77.6% and 0.961,respectively.Conclusions Mentzer and RDWI can be used for the differential diagnosis fo IDA and β-TT.

    Performance of real-time fluorescence PCR for the determination of CYP2C19 polymorphisms

    Objective To evaluate the precision,accuracy and limit of detection of real-time fluorescence polymerase chain reaction(PCR) for cytochrome P450 2C19(CYP2C19) polymorphisms.Methods DNA samples with different CYP2C19 genotypes(*1/*1,*1/*2,*1/*3 and *1/*17) were determined for 10 times in 1 run for evaluating precision. The results of real-time fluorescence PCR and Sanger sequencing were used and compared for evaluating accuracy. The DNA samples with different genotypes(*1/*1,*1/*2,*1/*3 and *1/*17) were diluted in a 2-fold serial pattern and determined by real-time fluorescence PCR for evaluating limit of detection.Results Real-time fluorescence PCR showed low coefficient of variation(CV) of Ct values(<2.5%),a low limit of detection of 1.875 ng/μL and accuracy of 100%(20/20) compared to the results of Sanger sequencing,including 6 kinds of CYP2C19 genotypes in 20 cases(1 case of *1/*17,3 cases of *1/*1,5 cases of *1/*2,5 cases of *1/*3,4 cases of *2/*2 and 2 cases of *2/*3).Conclusions Real-time fluorescence PCR is precise,accurate and suitable for CYP2C19 polymorphisms.

    Evaluation of microfluidic cartridge ELFA and IBT for allergen testing

    Objective To evaluate the performance of microfluidic cartridge enzyme-linked fluorescent immunoassay(ELFA)and immunoblotting test(IBT)for allergen testing.Methods A total of 225 patients from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Longhua Hospital Dermatological Department were enrolled. Allergen-specific IgE(sIgE)was determined by IBT and microfluidic cartridge ELFA. Results Specific allergens had been determined in 51 cases by IBT,the positive rate was 22.7%,and the top 4 common allergens were dermatophagoides pteronyssinus/dermatophagoides farinae,codfish/lobster/scallop,house dust and cat fur. Specific allergens had been determined in 82 cases by microfluidic cartridge ELFA,the positive rate was 36.4%,and the top 4 common allergens were mite mix(dermatophagoides farinae/dermatophagoides pteronyssinus/blomia tropicalis),cockroach mix(blattella germanica/blattella asahinai),crab and cat fur. The Kappa values for the consistency of the 2 methods were 38.2%,6.04%,32.1%,22.2% and 13.4% for mite mix,cockroach mix,cat fur,seafish mix and crab.Conclusions There is difference between IBT and microfluidic cartridge ELFA for allergen testing. Comparing with IBT,there are more allergens and higher positive rate of microfluidic cartridge ELFA. The 2 methods should be a complement for each other .

    Rapid determination of Chlamydia trachomatis by loop-mediated isothermal amplification

    Objective To establish a novel loop-mediated isothermal amplification(LAMP) for the simple and rapid determination of Chlamydia trachomatis(CT).Methods Four primers(2 inner primers and 2 outer primers) for LAMP were designed by targeting the cryptic plasmid gene of CT using PrimerExplorer V4 software. The reaction system and conditions of LAMP were optimized,and the sensitivity and specificity were evaluated. Meanwhile,the results of LAMP were compared with those of real-time fluorescence quantitation polymerase chain reaction(PCR). Results There was no cross reaction with other common bacteria,and the sensitivity was 100 copies/μL. A total of 90 clinical specimens were determined by LAMP. Compared with real-time fluorescence quantitation PCR,40 of 90 cases were positive,and 50 of 90 cases were negative by LAMP. There was a consistency of 100% between LAMP and real-time fluorescence quantitation PCR.Conclusions LAMP targeting the cryptic plasmid gene of CT is successfully established,and it can be as a novel tool for the rapid determination of CT.

    Comparison on combined culturing with solid-liquid media and molecular determination for Mycoplasma

    Objective To evaluate the performance of Ureaplasma urealyticum(Uu) and Mycoplasma hominis(Mh) determinations by the combined culturing with solid-liquid media in genitourinary tract infection.Methods A total of 5 hospitals above Grade 2 in Shanghai were enrolled. The results of the combined culturing with solid-liquid media and polymerase chain reaction(PCR) for the determinations of Uu and Mh were compared. Results A total of 183 samples were collected,including 112(61.2%) cases from males and 71(38.8%) cases from females. The positive rates for Uu were 50.8% [93/183,95%confidence interval(CI) 43.3%-58.3%] by combined culturing and 58.5%(107/183,95%CI 51.0%-65.7%) by PCR. The overall coincidence rate was 90.2%(165/183,95%CI 84.9%-94.1%),and there was statistical significance between the 2 assays(χ2=10.89,P=0.001). The positive rates for Mh were 31.7%(58/183,95%CI 25.0%-39.0%) by combined culturing and 32.2%(59/183,95%CI25.5%-39.5%) by PCR. The overall coincidence rate was 95.0%(174/183,95%CI 90.9%-97.7%),and there was no statistical significance between the 2 assays(χ2=0.11,P=0.739). Of all the samples,18 cases for Uu and 9 cases for Mh had inconsistent results between the 2 assays. However,there was no statistical significance for inconsistent results between males and females(P=0.236). Of the 18 cases for Uu with inconsistent results,most cases(71.4% males and 100% females) were combined culturing-negative and PCR-positive(P=0.137). Of the 9 cases for Mh with inconsistent resutls,there was no statistical significance between males and females(P=1.000).Conclusions The combined culturing with solid-liquid media can improve the positive rate of Mycoplasma,while PCR has high positive rate of Uu. Most cases with inconsistent results are from female samples. The difference of actual time efficiency between the 2 assays is not obvious.

    Objective To investigate the stability of routine urine dry chemical method in 24 h. Methods A total of 318 fresh urine specimens were collected. The specimens were determined immediately after collection,and the results were named as the results of 0 h. The specimens were determined after collection for 2,4,6 and 24 h,under room temperature(25± 2)℃ and 4 ℃,respectively. The pH value,specific gravity(SG),leukocyte(LEU),erythrocyte(ERY),nitrite(NIT),protein(PRO),glucose(Glu),bilirubin(Bil),urobilinogen(URO) and ketone body(KET) were determined. Results Compared with the results of 0 h,the results of LEU and ERY of 4 h at room temperature had statistical significance(P<0.05). The changes of LEU and ERY of 6 h at 4 ℃ had statistical significance(P<0.05),but there was no statistical significance for other parameters within 24 h at either room temperature or 4 ℃(P>0.05). Conclusions The stabilities of urine dry chemical method for different parameters within 24 h are different. The urine specimens should be determined within 2 h at room temperature,or within 4 h at 4 ℃. Some urine specimens from patients with special diseases should be determined as soon as possible,to ensure stability and accuracy.

    Objective To evaluate the role of substrate depletion limit parameters(enzyme linearity extension function) in BS-2000M2 automatic chemistry analysis system.Methods High-level samples were determined parallelly by decreased volume parameters(dilution) and substrate depletion limit parameters(enzyme linearity extension function). A total of 10 common kinetic chemistry items were involved,including alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),alkaline phosphatase(ALP),gamma-glutamyltransferase(GGT),lactate dehydrogenase(LDH),alpha-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase(α-HBDH),creatine kinase(CK),creatine kinase MB isoenzyme(CK-MB),alpha-amylase(α-AMY) and urea. The relative biases between enzyme linearity extension function and dilution were calculated. The main wavelength absorbance(A) at the end point of reaction range was recorded to determine whether substrate depletion occurred. The effectiveness of parameters was evaluated by comparing manual calculation results with actual reaction curve or result flags. Results According to the criteria of WS/T403—2012 or allowable total error(TEa) from the National Center for Clinical Laboratories' external quality assessment,the reportable ranges' upper limits of ALT,AST,ALP,GGT,LDH,α-HBDH,CK,CK-MB,α-AMY and urea were extended to 3 339 U/L,7 411 U/L,3 407 U/L,3 945 U/L,7 646 U/L,9 783 U/L,14 106 U/L,3 296 U/L,9 700 U/L and 54 mmol/L,respectively. The manual calculation results were consistent with actual reaction curve or result flags,and no false positive or negative substrate depletion was observed. According to the sample level distribution of ALT,AST,ALP,GGT,LDH,α-HBDH,CK,CK-MB,α-AMY and urea,100.00%,100.00%,100.00%,100.00%,100.00%,100.00%,99.96%,100.00%,100.00% and 99.97% of samples can be obtained final results through a single assay,when enzyme linearity extension function was employed. No error result occurred in all samples.Conclusions The enzyme linearity extension function in BS-2000M2 can effectively solve the risk of false negative results for high-level samples,reduce rerun frequency and shorten sample turn-around time.

    Transmembrane protein 16F(TMEM16F),also called Anoctamin(ANO)6,is a member of Anoctamin family,which is expressed in many types of cells. At present,the major functions of TMEM16F that have been demonstrated include:(1) Ca2+-dependent Cl- channel,which takes part in the regulation of cell volume;(2) Ca2+-regulated nonselective cation channel;(3) Ca2+-dependent phospholipid scramblase,which takes part in coagulation,cell apoptosis,bone mineralization and so on. Hence,at the basis of these functions,TMEM16F gene mutation is closely related with Scott syndrome,a rare inherit bleeding disease. The defect of TMEM16F can cause the dysfunction of bone mineralization and cell volume regulation. This review focuses on the structure and functions of TMEM16F,so as to show the role of TMEM16F in the physiopathologic mechanism,diagnosis and treatment of related diseases.
