  1. Brief introduction
  Laboratory Medicine，formerly Shanghai Journal of Medical Laboratory，is published domestically and abroad，which is administrated and sponsored by Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau and Shanghai Center for Clinical and Laboratory.
  
  Laboratory Medicine is one of the journals in the Guide to the Core Journals of China (Clinical Medicine，1996-2008) and is the Key Magazine of China Technology. It is collected by the following domestic and international databases: Chinese Academic Journal Comprehensive Evaluation Database，the Core Journals of China (Selection) Database，Chinese Journal Full-text Database，Chemical Abstracts (USA)，Abstract Journal (VINTI)，Index of Copurnicus (Poland)，Cambridge Scientific Abstracts-ProQuest (USA) and so on.
  
  Laboratory Medicine gets the following awards: Excellent Journals of East China (since 2002，for 3 times)，the first session CAJ-CD Standard Excellent Journal，Shanghai Science and Technology System Excellent Periodicals-Nomination Award，and Shanghai Science and Technology Periodicals Outstanding Reviewing.
  
  Laboratory Medicine was a quarterly founded in March 1986，and was a bimonthly from 1999 and monthly from 2009.
  
  Laboratory Medicine lies in practical use，and is committed to linking theory with practice，popular with improvement and clinic with clinical laboratory，which is mainly about the performance and characteristics of determination methods，new developments and great achievements.
  With the developments of automatic determination analysis systems，improving technology and point-of-care testing (POCT)，laboratory medicine becomes more and more important in the field of medicine，and laboratory medicine determinations fill the requirements of rapid diagnosis and self diagnosis constantly.
  
  In 2004，Shanghai Journal of Medical Laboratory changed his name for Laboratory Medicine.
  
  Laboratory Medicine has six subjects，Clinical Microbiology，Clinical Biochemistry，Clinical Immunology，Clinical Examination and Hematology，Molecular Biology and Laboratory Management.
  
  There are thesis，lecture，review，meeting minutes，experience sharing，domestic and foreign current developments，teaching corner，new techniques and mehtods and so on getting publishing on Laboratory Medicine.
  
  From 1999，theme papers became a part of our magazine，and this part was appreciated and favorably noticed.
  
  Since the opening of Laboratory Medicine’s website 2012 Jan 1st，the articles had been viewed for 360,000 times per year. Laboratory Medicine performs Open Access (OA) much earlier than the other domestic journals. The full-texts have been downloaded for 150,000 times，mainly in China (49%)，USA (48%)，and other 30 countries.
  
  For improving the quality of Laboratory Medicine，Laboratory Medicine invited four foreign editorial committee experts. They are:

  Laboratory Medicine lies in practical use，and is committed to linking theory with practice，popular with improvement and clinic with clinical laboratory，which is mainly about the performance and characteristics of determination methods，new developments and great achievements.
  Our aims are not only to exhibit academic standards of clinical laboratory medicine in Shanghai，but also to offer basic knowledge，new theory and new technology for domestic clinical laboratory medicine technicians.
