Abstract:

In the recent years, with the improvement of treatment regimens and the application of new drugs, the rate of complete remission of leukemia has been significantly improved. However, many patients still experience relapse, the combination of central nervous system leukemia(CNSL) is an important cause, and the patients often have a poor prognosis. At present, the diagnosis of CNSL mainly relies on clinical laboratory tests and clinical symptoms and signs. This review focuses on not only the traditional tools used to determine clinical samples, including routine cerebrospinal fluid examination(cerebrospinal fluid pressure, cytological smear and biochemical tests),cerebrospinal fluid flow cytometric immunophenotyping, but also an overview of other biomarkers, nucleic acid molecular diagnostics, metabolomics and other new technologies. These methodologies are expected to improve the sensitivity and specificity of the diagnosis of CNSL,to assist in the early diagnosis of central nervous system involvement, and to improve the clinical prognosis of patients by taking effective preventive and intervention measures.
