Abstract: Autophagy is the phenomenon that cell phagocytose itself in eukaryotic organism. In physiological condition, autophagy can maintain the stability of environment in vivo. Autophagy plays an important role in the process of many diseases. Studies prove that autophagy participates in the process of ischemia/reperfusion injury. However, it may play different roles in the 2 processes. In the process of ischemia, autophagy can protect cells, while in the process of reperfusion, autophagy may aggravate cell injury and even lead to cell death.
